MANILA — Cherry Ann Rondina unleashed a dominant double-double performance as Choco Mucho Flying Titans outlasted Nxled Chameleons in four sets, 27-25, 28-26, 16-25, 25-19, to secure back-to-back victories in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.
Rondina finished with 24 points and 20 excellent receptions to steer the Flying Titans through two tense opening sets and stabilize their floor defense late in the match, earning Player of the Game honors as Choco Mucho improved to a 3-3 win-loss record, tying the Chameleons in the standings.
“Nag stick lang kami sa mga set plays namin and minindset ko na din coming into this game na kailangan may receive ako,” Rondina said after the match.
Choco Mucho relied on its structured offense and composure during the extended first and second sets, fending off multiple set points as both teams traded momentum in a tight contest.
Nxled showed resilience by pushing the Flying Titans to the limit in the first two sets and grabbing the third frame, but the Chameleons struggled to sustain their surge as Choco Mucho regained control in the fourth set to close out the victory.
In the other match, Creamline Cool Smashers leaned on Diana Carlos’ steady all-around effort to turn back a gritty challenge from the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23.
Carlos delivered a double-double of 19 points and 13 digs to claim Player of the Game honors and lift the Cool Smashers into a share of the conference lead with a 4-1 record.
“I am just happy we won the game. We struggled in the second set, we just recovered in the third set and nakuha namin ’yung game namin,” Carlos said in a post-game interview.
The loss dropped Galeries Tower to a 2-4 mark and handed the team its second straight defeat./PN
