BACOLOD City – The leader of the notorious Rondoy robbery group fell on the hands of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) after an entrapment operation early morning yesterday in Barangay 7.
The 24-year-old Alex “Rondoy” Barredo was arrested around 2:30 a.m., a Police Station 2 report showed.
Barredo admitted to some holdup and carnapping incidents in the cities of Bacolod, Silay and Victorias.
But he defended himself saying that his victims were only those “who have money” and not the poor.
Poverty was the reason that Barredo did the crimes, he said. That is why he helps the poor using the proceeds he gets from the crimes, he claimed.
An informant tipped off the police that Barredo was going to hand over illegal drugs to a client in Purok Repolyo along Lacson Street, according to Police Station 2 commander Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias.
The police have been manning in the place since 9 p.m. on Oct. 1, Villarias added.
Recovered from Barredo were three sachets of shabu, a .38-caliber firearm loaded with six bullets and a sling bag containing a hand grenade, police said.
Barredo was detained at the Police Station 2 custodial facility and facing charges for violation of the election gun ban, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Presidential Decree No. 1866 amended by Republic Act 9516.
Yesterday, BCPO director Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, together with Villarias, presented to the media Barredo along with other four robbery suspects in a conference at the BCPO headquarters.
The other suspects were Teddy Mar Carmona, Jomar Vargas, Robert Chua, and Leowel Figueroa.
Wanky said he did such for the public to be “familiar with the (suspects’) faces.”
He also encouraged the victims of the suspects to file charges against them.
Carmona and Vargas were arrested in an illegal drug buy-bust operation on Sept. 29.
Carmona’s father Rudy was nabbed, too, while they were having a “pot session” in Carmona’s house in Barangay 6, a police report showed.
Police chanced upon Barredo and a certain “Jugjug” in the house but the they managed to escape using the back door, the report further stated.
Barredo said he worked with Carmona and Vargas in some of his robbery operations.
Moreover, Barredo advised the public to avoid flaunting valuable items, like cellphones, which can attract robbers.
Meanwhile, Arnold “Aki” Cuadra, the leader of another robbery group in the city, is still at large.
Wanky said the BCPO will not stop until the theft and robbery problems in the city are solved./PN
