ILOILO City – More trouble is in store for the policeman who shot a drunken man in Barangay Magdalo, La Paz district on Monday night.
While facing a homicide charge, Police Officer 1 John Patrick Lozada is being investigated for administrative liabilities, according to Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director.
Sanctions that may be imposed on Lozada will depend on the results of the Regional Internal Affairs Service investigation, Gentiles said.
Lozada of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force admitted shooting Roger Tingson of Barangay San Nicolas, La Paz around 11 p.m. on Dec. 19 inside a convenience store.
Tingson, who had a gunshot wound on the armpit, remains confined in the West Visayas State University Medical Center as of this writing.
But Gentiles said they are expecting Lozada to get a lighter penalty because he surrendered and admitted to the crime.
Tingson’s family will not file charges against Lozada but asked the officer to shoulder the hospital bills. Lozada agreed, according to Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay, La Paz police chief.
“The victim’s family will file an affidavit of desistance to show they are no longer interested in filing a case against [Lozada],” Sumagaysay said, but he clarified that the offending cop is still facing an administrative charge.
Tingson accidentally bumped into Lozada who was with two women. The policeman got mad and fired his .9mm pistol several times, said Sumagaysay./PN
