CAPIZ — The Roxas City Government has announced a cash incentive program for Team Roxas in recognition of its strong performance at the ongoing Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2026.
The regional sports meet, being held in Passi City, Iloilo from March 17 to 22, gathers athletes from across Western Visayas.
As of March 19, the Yellow Thunders—the official moniker of Team Roxas—have already secured 29 medals, prompting city officials to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said the incentive program aims to motivate athletes to excel further, with gold medalists set to receive P10,000, silver medalists P5,000, and bronze medalists P3,000.
“We want our athletes to feel the full support of the city government so they will be more determined to win, especially since they carry the name and pride of Roxas City,” Dadivas said.
He added that the initiative is meant to strengthen community support for young athletes and promote a culture of excellence in sports.
The mayor also highlighted that this year marks a milestone for Roxas City, as it is the first time the city is officially participating as a delegation in the WVRAA Meet—underscoring its commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.
The WVRAA Meet, themed “Stronger Champions, Greater Heights,” features delegates from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo Province, Iloilo City, Roxas City, and host city Passi, competing in various sports disciplines.
The Roxas City Government expressed hope that the incentives will not only reward current achievements but also inspire athletes to bring home more honors in the coming days.
