ROXAS City – A Saudi Arabian husband of a patient who died at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital donated an equipment to the medical facility.

Faud Ahmed Nazir and his family from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) gave the hospital a mechanical ventilator.

Nazir wanted to give money to three nurses who took care of his wife.

Lynnie Venus, Algen Pedroso and Benjamin Alfred Baril were no longer working at the provincial hospital.

“It’s a tradition for well-off families in the KSA to give compensation to nurses after the patient they took care of dies,” Venus said.

But the three former nurses asked Nazir if he could donate a ventilator instead.

The former nurses also donated a pulse oximeter, which may be used at the Intensive Care Unit.

Venus said their donation was their way of “giving back” and “helping [their] fellow Capisnons.”

She encouraged fellow nurses and other medical practitioners to “help the government in any way they can because [state hospital] funds are not enough to sustain all the [medical] needs of the people.”

Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital officer-in-charge Dr. Jose Ascencion Arancillo and Hospital Management Unit head Melanie Arancillo thanked the donors, who turned over the equipment on Dec. 28. (Melvin Galagate, Michelle Oropio and Junjun Delos Reyes, Capiz Aksyon News Center/PN)
