MANILA – The San Beda University Lady Red Spikers snapped away from a two-game losing skid in the Season 95 of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball by sweeping Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Lady Generals, 25-15, 25-16, 27-25 at the San Juan Arena on Feb. 3.
Franchesca Racracquin tallied 22 points, along with nine digs and seven excellent receptions for San Beda to remain at solo fourth in the standings with a 4-2 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, setter Lynne Matias finished with 19 excellent sets that led to 47 attacks, while NCAA’s Best Libero awardee Daryl Racraquin contributed 16 excellent digs for San Beda.
After achieving lopsided wins in the first two sets, the Lady Red Spikers were pushed to the limit in the third frame, but timely conversions from Trisha Paras and Franchesca Racracquin allowed San Beda to wrap up the match.
“Nag-usap-usap lang kami. Kinausap ko ‘yung mga seniors, lalo na ‘yung mga last year na. Kailangan talagang trabahuhin ‘yung mga remaining games,” Lady Red Spikers head coach Nemesio Gavino said.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers averted a late-game meltdown against Mapua University Lady Cardinals, taking a 25-18, 25-18, 31-29 weep to keep its bid for a Final Four berth alive.
Dolly Verzosa finished with a double-double output of 17 points and 10 digs, while Sydney Niegos added 10 points off six spikes, three blocks, and a service ace./PN
