ILOILO – Two additional towns in the province recorded African Swine Fever (ASF) infections: 4th District’s San Enrique and 5th District’s Ajuy.
Barangay Poblacion Ilaya in San Enrique and Barangay Pinantan Diel in Ajuy were declared as red zones, according to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).
In a red zone, the movement of live pigs, pork, pork products (fresh/frozen pork products and uncooked processed pork products, except cooked and canned processed pork products), and swine genetic materials in and out of the areas are prohibited.
The total number of ASF-affected towns in Iloilo now stands at 23.
Of this, 17 towns are red zones: Oton, San Miguel, Leganes, New Lucena, Alimodian, Santa Barbara, Mina, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, Banate, Janiuay, Concepcion, Barotac Viejo, Dingle, Batad, San Dionisio, and Zarraga.
The six towns under pink zones are Dueñas, Pototan, Badiangan, Estancia, San Enrique, and Ajuy.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said the provincial government continues to implement biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of ASF and, at the same time, makes efforts to recover the damaged inventory of hogs.
“Gusto naton bisan maka-recover lang kita sang 30 percent sang inventory ta. We are doing that right now as we continue to give assistance sa aton farmers nga naigu,” said Defensor.
As of February, 125,507 swine heads – 45 percent of the 277,421 total inventory – or valued at P1.255 billion, were culled to contain the hog disease.
