San Jose District Jail aims for 2023 Red Orchid Award

ANTIQUE – The San Jose District Jail in Barangay 8, Binirayan Hills, San Jose de Buenavista town is aiming for the 2023 Red Orchid Award.

The Red Orchid Award is conferred by the Department of Health (DOH) to government hospitals, offices, and local government units (LGUs) that consistently implement a 100 percent tobacco-free environment and meet the quality standards on tobacco prevention and control set by the World Health Organization. 

On Jan. 18, the DOH Region 6 validation team assessed the San Jose District Jail’s anti-smoking initiatives. 

Jail Inspector Josue Ma R. Estorque, jail warden, presented their smoking ban programs, advocacies and accomplishments for the past years.

The validation team was composed of Maverick B. Reales and Hazel S. Fernandez from DOH-6, Jail Senior Inspector Imee S. Lopera and Jail Officer 2 Janny Rose B Fecara from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Region 6, and Irene R. Duldoco, personnel from the Provincial Health Office – Antique.

Meanwhile, Jail Officer 2 Annaliza Dela Cruz, a registered nurse and Smoking Cessation Focal Person for the San Jose District Jail, discussed the management’s efforts to reduce tobacco consumption both inside and outside the institution./PN
