San Miguel downs Pavia for women’s volleyball title

SAN Miguel town captured the Inter-Municipality Women’s Volleyball Tournament Season 2 crown by beating Pavia in Game 2 of the best-of-three finals on Sunday in the latter town in Iloilo province.

Led by tournament MVP and Best Attacker awardee Pinky Salavante, San Miguel made a quick work of the 2017 titlist Pavia to avenge their defeat in the same tournament last year.

“We really made a lot of adjustments in Game 2 because we had a rough showing in Game 1,” said San Miguel head coach Jose Subo. “I am glad my other players also stepped up.”

Salavante’s teammate Helene Celiz was named Best Setter while Pavia’s Glaudine Trongcoso, Janine Bacus and Eunice Guevarra were recognized as Best Blocker, Best Receiver and Best Server, respectively. Pototan’s Amie Provido was the Top Rookie awardee.

In Inter-Municipality Basketball Tournament, Oton drew first blood with a 77-74 win over Dumangas in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series in the Passi City Arena.

Mythical team members Nicholas Epoy Bellones and John Jovie Faeldan led Oton, which reached the gold-medal round by unseating last year’s champion Sara Warriors./PN
