MANILA – Careful not to fall for the antics TNT show on and off court, San Miguel are eyeing a 3-1 lead in Game 4 of the 2017 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria reminded his players not to be rattled by distractions being thrown their way by Katropa, which suffered its second-straight defeat in the best-of-seven series after winning Game 1.
“Lahat naglabasan ang intensity ng mga players to the point na nagkakaroon na ng kaguluhan sa court,” said Austria. “But I told the players na we have to be focused and we don’t want to engage in any untoward incident against them.”
“We’re trying to protect the image of San Miguel Beer, especially si Ramon Ang. Ayaw nila ng ganyan,” he added. “But when push comes to shove, my players will never back down.”
San Miguel veteran Arwind Santos said they cannot be distracted, what with their constant appearance in the PBA Finals the past few seasons.
“Ang maganda sa team namin, kapag nagagalit mas lalong gumaganda laro namin,” Santos said. “Iyon naman ang lagi naming sinasabi sa isa’t-isa, na OK lang na magalit dahil ayaw naming matalo talaga.”
“Sa amin kaya naman naming makisabay sa mga ganoong laro. Kung gusto nila ng ganoon, pagbibigyan namin,” Santos added. “Pero kailangan huwag kaming mawala sa gusto naming gawin.”
Katropa’s unnecessary antics started in Game 2 when rookie Roger Pogoy hit Santos in the groin. In Game 3, Chris Ross of San Miguel and Ryan Reyes of TNT were involved in a heated argument on court.
Off court, some Beermen players were receiving taunting from TNT reserve imports Mike Myers and Michael Craig. The two were also involved in a commotion with San Miguel officials at the coliseum hallway./PN
