UNIVERSITY of San Agustin captured the 2017 ILOPRISAA tertiary women’s championship after a 61-56 win over Western Institute of Technology in the gold medal match at the Iloilo Sports Complex gym.

From a tightly contested first three quarters, SanAg distanced early in the fourth frame with inside conversions before thwarting the last minute rally by WIT to clinch the championship on Wednesday.

SanAg men’s basketball team, meanwhile, moved closer to duplicating the feat of its counterpart from the distaff side after a 67-48 win over Iloilo Doctors’ College in Game 1 of the finals.

SanAg can capture the men’s title if it wins again in Game 2, which was being played as of press time.

Central Philippine University claimed the third place trophy with a 77-72 win over John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University.

In elementary boys’ basketball, Hua Siong of Iloilo and St. Roberts International Academy Panda Rockets set up a do-or-die championship match after beating their semifinals foes.

Hua Siong moved on to the gold medal game after a 69-53 win over SanAg, while Panda Rockets scored a lopsided 60-34 win over Ateneo de Iloilo.

In secondary football, CPU Golden Lions scored 4-0 over PAREF-Westbridge team. Scorers for Golden Lions were Tyler Kim Rivera, Julian Abastillas and James Tuazon./PN
