MANILA – For the second time this year, the Sandiganbayan Seventh Division has allowed former Bacolod City councilor Carlo Jose Lopez to travel abroad – this time to Japan.
In a two-page resolution released on Friday, the Sandiganbayan’s special court has granted Lopez’s motion for leave of court to travel to Japan from Feb. 11 to 21.
While in Osaka, Lopez will be staying at Intercontinental Osaka and while in Fukuoka, he will be staying at Hilton Fukuoka-Shi, according to the itinerary he submitted before the anti-graft court.
“The motion has been granted but only for the travel to Japan in keeping with the policy of the [Sandiganbayan] to consider only one foreign travel at a time and subject to the usual terms and conditions imposed,” part of the resolution stated.
Last month, the Sandiganbayan’s Seventh Division has also granted Lopez’s trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates from Jan. 25 to 30. The former councilor has another pending travel request to Vietnam in March.
The Office of the Ombudsman charged Lopez before the Sandiganbayan with three counts of usurpation of official functions under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
Lopez was later ordered dismissed from service after being found guilty of grave misconduct for issuing truck ban exemptions to certain truck companies and individuals operating within the city in 2013./PN
