Sanitary landfill for Passi’s garbage mulled

ILOILO – The component city of Passi would be breaking ground for a sanitary landfill that could accommodate 1,000 tons of waste daily.

The groundbreaking is on Oct. 24 in Barangay Aglalana, Passi City.

The proposed sanitary landfill would be constructed via public-private partnership, Vice Mayor Jesry Palmares told reporters during a visit to the provincial capitol recently.

Basic Environment Systems Technologies, Inc. (BEST) will be building the landfill.

When fully operational, the city government is entitled to an 18 percent share from the sanitary landfill’s revenues.

BEST will operate the landfill for 15 years.

“Ang syudad sang Passi waay bisan cinco nga gastuhon. BEST tanan-tanan ang magasto. Ang amon counterpart is the area for the landfill, a property sang city,” said Palmares.

Construction will be for six months.

Passi City may open the landfill to neighboring towns, Palmares told Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr./PN
