Sara sugarcane field laborer hacked to death

ILOILO City – A sugarcane plantation laborer was found dead with multiple hack wounds in Barangay Malipaya, Sara, Iloilo.

Edwin Aresgar, 25, was a resident of Barangay Malipaya.  His body was found by villager Ricky Dela Cruz at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Aresgar was last seen alive on a drinking binge with other plantation laborers at the sari-sari store of Rona Mae Segovia on Friday night.

He left his drinking buddies at around 11 p.m. to supposedly go home.

But Aresgar never reached his house, according to Police Staff Master Sergeant Arne Abian.

“We have no suspects yet. But we are summoning Aresgar’s colleagues for some questions,” said Abian.

Aresgar had hack wounds on the neck and shoulders.

Abian said Aresgar was not a drug suspect and had no derogatory record at the Sara police station.

“Definitely illegal drugs were not the motive in this hacking case,” said Abian.

He did not discount the possibility that this crime was a case of mistaken identity./PN
