MANILA – Former Bayan MunarepresentativeSaturOcampo on Saturday warned President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte against letting the Marcoses use him for their own political plans, which could include an eventual return to the Malacañang.
Ocampo made the statement following the clandestine burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the LibinganngmgaBayani, which he had opposed at the Supreme Court as one of the original petitioners.
The former lawmaker, who was detained for years during Marcos’ rule, said Duterte is obviously working with the former first family.
“‘Wag niyang pabayaang magamit siya ng Marcoses para sa kanilang pangsariling pampulitikang agenda,” said Ocampo.
The Marcos family pulled off the secret internment with the help of the police and military but the Palace has denied having any hand in it, although Duterte has expressed support for the burial in the past.
But Ocampo said there have been signs of this influence ever since the President said he may suspend the writ of habeas corpus, which is reminiscent of the Marcos regime.
“Pahiwatig yun ng kanyang pakiki-alyansa sa mga Marcoses,” he said.
Ocampo said they are also worried about the pending electoral case former senator Bongbong Marcos Jr., who Duterte had joked could be his VP soon, filed against Vice President LeniRobredo.
“Kapag binaliktad nila ‘yan, talagang full restoration [itong Marcoses] paving the way for Bongbong to run for president in 2022…Sampal sa publiko sa mamamayan na mababalik pa sa Malacañan ang Marcoses,” he said.
In the meantime, Ocampo said they will pursue the appeal before the Supreme Court and will continue with their street protests. (ABS-CBN News)
