MANILA – The Ceres-La Salle Football Club got back on the winning track in the 2016 United Football League with a 4-1 victory over the Loyola Meralco Sparks Football Club on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Stephan Schrock scored a hat-trick, while Manuel Ott added a goal for Ceres-La Salle, which moved up to second place in the standings with 35 points on a 11-3-2 win-loss-draw slate.
Ceres-La Salle jumped to an early lead as Schrock drained a free kick to the back of the net. The lead was quickly doubled as Schrock converted his second goal with a left foot finish.
Schrock nearly drained his third goal before the halftime but his shot was bounced off the post. The Bacolod City-based squad increased the lead early in the second frame with Ott scoring from inside the box.
Late in the match, Schrock completed his hat trick as he scored from close range. The Loyola Meralco Sparks, however, did not go home empty handed as Simon Greatwich scored in the final minute.
In the first match, Louis Clark scored a hat-trick, while Kenshiro Daniels added two goals as the Kaya Football Club dominated the cellar-dwelling Laos Football Club, 8-0.
The Loyola Meralco Sparks and Kaya are now at fourth and fifth place with 34 and 30 points respectively. Laos, on the other hand, is at last place with three points on 2-13-1 record./PN
