MANILA – Iloilo 4th District’s Rep. Ferjenel Biron has earned his first significant endorsement in his 2019 gubernatorial ambition.
Sen. Cynthia Villar said she would support Biron.
A physician by profession, Biron is a member of the Villar-led Nacionalista Party (NP).
“Syempre (susuportahan ko). NP ‘yun e. Kapartido eh,” the senator said, also saying that the solon was “sure” about running the governor’s race.
Villar assured him of her “moral support.”
“Hindi naman niya kailangan ang suporta ko. By himself kayang-kaya niya. May resources, bailiwick. Maganda naman ang serbisyo niya sa tao,” she explained.
Biron earlier announced securing endorsements from legislators and mayors from the second, fourth and fifth districts.
The support of the three congressional districts, he told Panay News, is “very essential and relevant towards achieving victory in 2019.”
The author of Cheaper Medicines Law said congressmen Arcadio Gorriceta and Raul Tupas chose to adhere to their “gentlemen’s agreement” and committed to support him in 2019.
Just this March 18 and 29, Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. met with Biron, Gorriceta, Tupas, and Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr. to discuss politics and agreed to field a common candidate for governor.
“The final decision to run is not mine alone. The support of the majority of the mayors and congressmen is vital,” said Biron.
Cong. Defensor has also expressed interest to run for governor./PN
