MANILA – Senators want another briefing with the Armed Forces on the situation in Marawi City amid the push from various officials to extend the martial law in Mindanao, according to Grace Poe.
President Rodrigo Duterte proclaimed martial law in Mindanao on May 23 after the Maute terrorist group attacked the Lanao del Sur capital.
“Magkakaroon na kami ng resumption ng session sa mga darating na araw,” said Poe, who was in Iloilo City recently to attend an event organized by the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. Panay chapter.
“Gusto naming magkaroon ulit ng briefing at sa tingin ko, magkakaroon ulit kami ng briefing sa AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) para malaman talaga ang sitwasyon doon,” she said.
The Iloilo City-born senator believes the threat from the Islamic State-inspired Maute group still exists. “No doubt, may threat pa rin.”
“Ang importante iyong rehabilitation,” she said. “Habang ang isang lugar ay devastated by war, or devastated by fighting, siyempre walang trabaho, walang maayos na tinitirhan ang ating mga kababayan. Dapat maayos ang mga iyon.”/PN
