ILOILO City – Three drug pushing suspects were arrested at Smallville Complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district yesterday. One of them was a minor.
The following were taken to the Mandurriao police station: Marcus Philip Estellogo, 26; Lindoy Aristoza, 30; and the minor, 16. All were residents of Barangay Desampardos, Jaro district.
The operation was carried out by the Molo district police. An “asset” was able to buy from the suspects a sachet of shabu for P1,600 around 1 a.m. outside a disco bar.
According to Chief Inspector Marlon Valencia, Molo police chief, they originally planned to carry out the sting operation in Molo but the suspects decided to move the transaction to Smallville, a popular strip of restaurants, bars and hotels.
Seventeen more sachets valued at P36,000 were recovered from the suspects.
Valencia said the suspects belonged to the Prevendido drug group.
The Molo police placed the suspects under surveillance for two weeks prior to the buy-bust.
Their shabu sources were Barangay Desamparados, Jaro and Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, said Valencia.
The minor suspect would be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, said Valencia.
According to the police chief, the suspects may have believed they were safe to conduct drug transactions at Smallville.
Not all establishments at Smallville Complex appeared to have security guards, the Mandurriao police recently observed.
The chief of the Mandurriao police station, Chief Inspector Juvy Navales, urged establishments there to hire security guards to keep their businesses peaceful and orderly. Another aim was to apprehend youngsters violating the curfew ordinance for minors.
“The police could not do this alone. We need the help of the owners of the business establishments,” said Navales./PN
