INTEGRATED energy company Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) continued its eight-year winning streak at the “Oscars” of Philippine public relations when it received new nods at the recently concluded 58th Anvil Awards organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines on March 8 at the Grand Ballroom of the Manila Marriott Hotel.

“Anong Kwentong Semirara Mo?”, a short-form video campaign, was SMPC’s silver Anvil-winning entry and the company’s first-ever submission under the Multimedia Tools category.

The award recognizes SMPC’s commitment to inclusive growth in its host communities and the nation.

The win coincides with the company’s 25th anniversary celebration since its acquisition by DMCI Holdings, Inc. in 1997, transforming the then Semirara Coal Corporation, which used to operate at a loss, into the country’s largest coal producer and a crucial player in the Philippine energy industry.

“We are honored with this recognition from the distinguished Anvil Awards by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines. All the hard work to make a difference in the lives of our host communities and stakeholders in the past 25 years paid off indeed,” said Maria Cristina Gotianun, president and COO of SMPC.

In celebrating its silver anniversary, SMPC launched the video campaign to highlight empowering and inspiring stories showcasing the company’s positive impacts on livelihood, education, skills training, and infrastructure development.

SMPC employees, stakeholder, and beneficiaries of the company’s social development programs shared their testimonies and unique experiences in bite-sized videos.

One of the campaign’s featured stakeholders, Merlin Calimoso Cagay, a dressmaker affiliated with the Semirara Women’s Organization, was thankful for SMPC’s dressmaking and tailoring livelihood program, which has allowed her to generate additional income and support her family’s necessities.

In a separate video, grade school principal Grace Arguelles expressed her appreciation to SMPC for scholarships given to teachers like her and other Semirara residents.
