BACOLOD City – A Philippine Army soldier died and four others were wounded in a shooting around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 at a restobar in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Private First Class (PFC) Edmark Iwayan, 26, of Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental succumbed to gunshot wounds at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).
Authorities, meanwhile, identified the wounded as PFC Joebert Villagracia, 29, of Moises Padilla town; Joebert Visem, 25, owner of the restobar and a resident of Sipalay City; and Barangay Taculing residents Joseph John Magahum, 45, and Ulysis Carampatana, 45, who was tagged as the suspect.
Visem and Carampatana were taken to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center while Villagracia and Magahum were treated at the CLMMRH.
Witnesses reported to the police that the two soldiers were having a drinking session with Visem when the group of Carampatana arrived and ordered drinks.
After a while, an argument ensued between Visem and Carampatana, leading to the shooting.
Police added that Villagracia’s injuries were caused by mauling also during the incident.
The two soldiers were assigned at the Range Direction Finder (RDF) of the 94th Infantry Battalion.
As of this writing, Police Station 8 is conducting an investigation pending the filing of proper charges against the suspect./PN
