Soldier, wife die in shooting, stabbing inside Bacolod home

BACOLOD City — A soldier and his wife died following a shooting and stabbing incident during a heated altercation inside their residence in Purok Tilapia, Barangay 3 here on Sunday afternoon, July 12.

Police identified the fatalities as a 31-year-old private first class assigned to the Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion and his 26-year-old wife.

Police Lt. Conan Gadayan, officer-in-charge of Police Station 2, said the couple figured in a heated argument at around 5:13 p.m.

Initial investigation showed that during the altercation, the soldier allegedly used his service firearm to shoot himself in the head.

Moments later, the soldier’s 54-year-old father allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his daughter-in-law in the back after seeing his son lying on the floor, police said.

Both victims were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Investigators recovered a Glock 17 service pistol from the scene.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 2 following the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and to establish the appropriate charges against the suspect./PN
