MANILA – Three members of the House of Representatives filed on Monday a 13-page ethics complaint against Sen. Leila de Lima at the Senate.
They are representatives Pantaleon Alvarez, Rodolfo Farinas, and Reynaldo Umali.
The complaint stems from de Lima’s advice to her former driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan not to attend the congressional probe into the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Drug convicts at NBP claimed that they raised funds for the senatorial campaign of de Lima in exchange for protection.
Rep. Reynaldo Umali, chair of the House justice panel, lodged the complaint past 3 p.m. It was received by Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges chief Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
“Kung hindi naging ganon ang actuation ni senator de Lima, baka hindi namin fi-nile ito,” Umali told reporters.
“Pero ang nangyari hinahamon niya talaga ang House. So, this is ultimately the decision of the House leadership to pursue the filing an ethics complaint.”
What de Lima did, according to the congressman, is a “clear case of contempt of the power and authority vested in the House of Representatives.”
The complainants asked the ethics committee to impose the corresponding disciplinary measures against the lady senator for “her disrespect for a co-equal chamber which she called a kangaroo court.”/PN
