ILOILO — A long-standing family feud ended in tragedy after a 40-year-old man struck his 62-year-old father to death with a bamboo pole in Barangay Sianon, Badiangan, Iloilo, on Monday morning, Oct. 12.
Police identified the victim as alias “Jimmy” while the suspect was identified as alias “Randy,” both residents of Sitio Janiuay in the said barangay.
Police Major Jorge Lenantud, officer-in-charge of the Badiangan Municipal Police Station (MPS), revealed in an interview with DYRP Life Radio Iloilo that an argument erupted between the two at around 10:30 a.m.
Initial investigations indicated that the father went to his son’s house and gave him an errand. When the son refused to obey, the father hit him with a walking stick.
Reeling from the strike and fueled by unresolved personal grievances, the suspect told police that he “lost control.” He grabbed a length of bamboo and repeatedly hit his father on the head and neck, inflicting fatal injuries.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently detained at the Badiangan MPS custodial facility, where he faces formal charges for parricide./PN
