MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte’s 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon at Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City is a reflection of the Philippines’ future, Presidential Communications secretary Martin Andanar said.
Andanar added the upcoming SONA will be one of Duterte’s most important addresses as it will revolve around his “legacy.”
“This Monday will be the day that you will know the future and how the future will look like in the Philippines,” Andanar said.
“Ito basically ang isa sa pinaka-importanteng SONA ni Presidente. This is about legacy building. I call it the Duterte legacy,” he added.
Andanar said the “Duterte legacy” for the next three years will address the issues of poverty alleviation, infrastructure, and peace and order.
“Those are the three that will be the overarching message for the next 3 years, those are the 3 that we call the Duterte legacy,” Andanar added.
Meanwhile, issues about the rising prices of basic goods, jobs and salary rates are what Filipinos wanted to hear from Duterte in his SONA, based on a Pulse Asia survey.
In the survey results released over the weekend, 17.1 percent of 1,200 Filipino adults interviewed wanted to hear Duterte’s views on workers’ pay, while 17.1 percent others wanted to know about the government’s plan in reducing prices of basic goods.
Other topics mentioned in the survey were jobs or livelihood opportunities (15.2 percent), Manila’s relations with Beijing (9.2 percent), and the assertion of the Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (6.1 percent.).
Some 7.8 percent of the respondents hoped Duterte will mention the war on drugs, 5.9 percent on improving the agricultural sector, while 2.6 percent want pension increases to be discussed.
The survey was conducted from June 24 to 30 through face-to-face interviews. It has an error margin of +/- 2.8-percent and a 95-percent confidence level./PN
