ILOILO City – The state-owned Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) plans to establish a high-density housing facility in this city, a first of its kind outside Luzon, according to Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office chief Jeck Conlu.
SHFC is a line agency of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council undertaking social housing programs that cater to the formal and informal sectors in the low-income bracket. It takes charge of developing and administering social housing program schemes.
According to Conlu, an estimated 1,000 families would be accommodated in this high-density housing facility – condominium-type medium-rise building with four to five floors.
Before Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog took a sick leave, Conlu said, SHFC president Arnolfo Ricardo Cabling visited the city and discussed the project with the city’s chief executive.
The city government would provide the lot where SHFC would be developing the high-density housing project.
A memorandum of agreement would be signed between the city government and SHFC for this “condo-housing” but Conlu did not say when.
The city government already identified a five-hectare lot in Jaro district for the project, he revealed.
Negotiations with the lot owner are currently ongoing.
Conlu expressed confidence that the project could started early next year.
“Indi ‘ni sia tenement lang pareho sa Luzon. Ang gusto ni Mayor Jed well-maintained ang building. Ang iya istura indi lang nga daw square lang, may design ang building which is nanamian ang aton national government,” said Conlu.
Priority beneficiaries are city residents living in danger zones such as frequently-flooded areas near creeks and rivers, those affected by government road-widening projects, and those with ejectment cases./PN
