ILOILO City – A 33-year-old special needs woman was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old fish vendor in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect as Jeffrey Violata, live-in partner of the victim’s cousin.
Officers have yet to find the suspect, who managed to escape.
Rose (not her real name) said Violata invited her to their house around 3 p.m. on July 13, and sexually assaulted her while his live-in partner was away, said Chief Inspector Raymond Celoso, Barotac Nuevo police chief.
Violata then gave Rose P20 and urged her not to tell anyone.
But the victim told her parents what happened. The parents, in turn, reported to the police.
Celoso said they rushed to the suspect’s house but did not find him there.
Rose had undergone a medical test to verify the sexual assault.
If positive, the test result will be used in filing charges against Violata, Celoso said.
The Barotac Nuevo police launched a manhunt against the suspect./PN
