
BACOLOD City – St. John’s Institute Team A Falcons emerged the champion in the first-ever Premier Volleyball League Youth Festival Girls 12- under volleyball at the St. John’s Institute here.
The Falcons bested Talisay City in the do-or-die gold medal match on Sunday while Bago City’s Ma-ao Elementary School and Team Pulupandan ended up at third and fourth place, respectively.
A total of 16 teams from different cities of Negros Occidental competed in the one-day tournament, which was a part of activities for the PVL Open Conference doubleheader on Sunday at the USLS Coliseum.
St. John’s Institute Team B, two teams from Calvary School 2, two teams from Bago City, two teams from University of St. La Salle, two teams from Bacolod TayTung High School, Trinity Christian School, Livingstone IS, Asuncion L. Lizares Elementary School, and La Carlota City also participated.
The Youth Festival was a provincial wide effort of PVL to give more opportunity for the young to get access to competitive games.
“We aim to grow local talents for volleyball and create an avenue for more opportunities for the young through sports,” said Bea Tan, organizer and founder of GRID Athletic Sports.
She added: “We want to replicate this and create more opportunity for grassroots volleyball to grow even more.”/PN
