MANILA – Stallion-Laguna Football Club continued its resurgence in the 2017 Philippines Football League after forcing Kaya-Makati Football Club to a 1-1 draw at the Biñan Football Stadium in Biñan, Laguna.
With the result, Kaya-Makati dropped to third place in the standings with 27 points on eight wins, three draws and four losses, while Stallion-Laguna moved up to sixth place with 14 points.
With both teams failing to score in the opening half, Kaya-Makati gained the advantage early in the second half with Jordan Mintah from a pass from the right flank by Negrense Janrick Soriano.
However, Kaya-Makati’s lead did not last long as Stallion-Laguna quickly countered courtesy of Dan Villarico, who scored a follow-up to a missed attempt by Ilonggo Jan Jesus Melliza.
With the scoreline tied at 1-1, tensions arose between two Ilonggo players as Kaya-Makati’s Jovin Bedic tugged at Stallion-Laguna’s Ruben Doctora.
Doctora retaliated with a shot to Jovin’s face.
Meanwhile, Ben Tolete scored a game-tying goal in the endgame as Ilocos United Football Club salvaged a 2-2 draw with JP Voltes-Marikina Football Club at the Quirino Stadium.
Ilocos United gained the early lead in the match on a hit by Kennedy Uzoka but JP Voltes answered with back-to-back hits from Alen Angeles and William Espinosa to snatch a 2-1 edge before conceding a late goal to Tolete.
Ilocos United, however, remained at last place in the standings with four points on four draws and 11 losses, while JP Voltes is at fifth place with 19 points on six wins, six losses and a draw./PN
