NUMBERS don’t lie.

Punch statistics appeared to belie the victory of Jeff Horn, who garnered 115-113, 115-113, 117-111 from the judges to overcome Manny Pacquiao and cart away the WBO welterweight title on Sunday.

Official punch stats published by Top Rank showed the dethroned champion landed 182 of 573 thrown for 32-percent accuracy. Horn landed 15 percent of his punches, or 92 of 625 thrown.

Pacquiao also had more effective power punches, landing 32 percent, or 123 of 380 thrown, compared to the Australian’s 17 percent, or only 73 of 428 thrown.

The Filipino fighter was also leading in the jab department, landing 59 of 193 thrown (31 percent), while Horn landed only 19 of 197 thrown (10 percent).

Horn also used headlocks, clinches and head-butts. The Brisbane native committed 38 headlocks, 39 clinches, four head-butts, and seven elbows to the face of Pacquiao, a count done by Panay News showed.

Horn was mellow with his headlocks in the first seven rounds where he had 12 headlocks while punching Pacquiao’s head. In one of his headlocks in the fourth, Horn threw Pacquiao to the floor but it was ruled as a slip.

In the seventh round alone, Horn had four headlocks before increasing the number in the last three rounds (16 combined).

Horn was active in clinching with a punch on the back in the first few rounds, committing five each in the first and fourth rounds. He had 19 clinches from seventh to 10th rounds, where Pacquiao dominated.

Horn also had four head-butts in the match: in the seventh, which hurt the left of Pacquiao’s head; eighth, which injured the right side; and in ninth and 10th during heated exchanges with the Filipino.

The Aussie was also seen planting an elbow on the shoulder or above Pacquiao’s head. There was also an instance in the fifth when Horn pushed Pacquiao down to the floor with an elbow to the head. (With SPIN.ph/PN)
