MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings will aim to clinch the remaining PBA Governors’ Cup finals seat when it tangles with TNT KaTropa in Game 4 of their best-of-five semifinals series tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The defending champion moved a game closer to a return to the Governors’ Cup finals after a 106-103 escape over KaTropa in a highly emotional encounter on Friday evening.
Kings head coach Tim Cone hopes his players will once again show their aggressiveness in the match slated 6:30 p.m. so they could face off with Meralco Bolts in the best-of-seven finals starting Oct. 13.
“I am expecting for them to show the same aggressiveness in Game 4,” Cone said. “We will try to close out the series. We’ll see what happens in Game 4. To me, this is just tit-for-tat.”
Cone believes their aggressiveness in going for the basket was key in their dominant performance in Game 3 – and not what KaTropa’s camp was alleging that they were benefitting from referee calls.
“We’re the aggressive team in Game 3. We went to the line a lot because we were the aggressive team,” Cone said. “In Game 2, they were the more aggressive team so they got the most foul shots. I don’t care what TNT may say, but that’s the way it is.”
“You’re the more aggressive team, you go to the free throw line (more),” he added. “I’m happy with the free throws. I was not happy with the Game 2 officiating. They we’re beating us. They we’re grabbing and holding our players and doing such stuff.”
Joe Devance, who led the scoring for Kings in Game 3 with 20 points, said they hope to continue what they did right the other night.
“It’s gonna be the same, it’s gonna be war,” Devance said. “I think we’re ready. I think we’ll be more prepared than we were for Game 2. Winning (Game 3) means nothing if we can’t get the third win.”/PN
