ILOILO City – A student from San Pedro National High School in San Jose, Antique province won first place in the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) photo contest on Oct. 28 at the agency’s regional office.
Mary Jane Baje bested 19 other entries from all over the region. Baje’s masterpiece showing a consumer examining the freshness of the fish while the fish vendor is looking was adjudged the best photo entry in the recently concluded Snap, Like and Share photo contest of DTI-6.
She took home P5,000 cash prize and a certificate of recognition.
Juan Manuel Dela Cerna of College of St. John in Roxas City, Capiz bagged the second spot while Hans Gerald Adelantar of Tanque National High School in Roxas City, Capiz placed third.
The photo contest was part of the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) every October. This year, the CWM was hosted and led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas with the theme “Consumer Protection: A Shared Responsibility.”
“The theme emphasizes the importance of working together among government agencies and business in ensuring that consumers are accorded the protection needed. Consumers are likewise responsible for their own protection. They should not only be aware of their rights as consumers but take measures to know and make informed decisions about their transactions,” the DTI said./PN
