‘Successful’ inasal festival ‘to stimulate tourist traffic’

Russian ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev

BACOLOD City – Russian ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev will be the guest of honor for today’s Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival.

Khovaev wants to see the tourist attractions in the city that is why he accepted the invitation, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Leonardia said Khovaev’s visit “can stimulate the tourist traffic in Bacolod.”

The mayor is hoping for a “successful” conduct of the one-day festival. The success of the event will affect how Khovaev would promote the city to Russian tourists, he said.

“It (festival) will catch for sure the attention of the tourism world and will focus on the fact that the inasal is synonymous to Bacolod City,” added Leonardia.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, festival committee chairwoman, said they will set up a 300-meter long chicken barbecue grill from the Golden Diamond Jubilee Tower at the public plaza to San Sebastian Street today.

A total of 3,000 grilled chicken inasal will be prepared there, Rojas added.

About 25 chicken inasal sellers will also put up kiosks along Araneta Street, which will be closed from 10 a.m. to midnight.

The grilling will start at 4 p.m., according to Rojas. A boodle fight will follow in front of the old city hall.

Free chicken inasal will be given to about 2,000 people from different barangays in the city.

The Bacolod City Police Office will deploy 200 personnel to secure the festival.

The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office will also mobilize 100 traffic personnel to assist motorists as it implements traffic rerouting near the festival venue./PN
