Sun Yat Sen, Hua Siong ‘speedsters’ dominate ISSA Meet

SUN YAT SEN High School and Hua Siong College of Iloilo had strong showings in speed contests of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex track.

Sun Yat Sen was the runaway winner in secondary girls with 13 gold, five silver and one bronze medals while Hua Siong ruled elementary boys (three golds) and secondary boys (11-3-3).

Jackie Tirzah Sabando anchored Sun Yat Sen in capturing the overall championship in secondary girls with four gold medals (including two in relay teams) and a silver medal.

The Iloilo City native defeated schoolmate Elisa Balilite in 100m and 200m runs before settling for silver against another schoolmate, Arielle Marie Lachica, in 400m.

Sabando took the 4x100m relay gold with Balilite, Gab Barlin and Marjorie Basea before ruling the 4x400m relay with Basea, Barlin and Mica Barlin.

Basea, meanwhile, delivered two more golds when she topped the 800m and 1500m runs, with Gab Barlin finishing behind her.

Iloilo Scholastic Academy’s Eunice Cabardo had three bronze medals in 100m, 200m and 800m runs.

Meanwhile Ed Alfred Ferrer bannered Hua Siong in secondary boys with five golds – two against sibling Ross Alfred in 100m and 200m runs, one in 400m dash, and one each in 4x100m and 4x400m relays with Ross Alfred, Christian Alinab and Ladislao Villanueva.

Ramon Aguirre of Santa Clarita International School won gold in 800m dash before settling for silver in 400m and bronze in 200m. Emmanuel Mayuga and Patrick Barriga of Hua Siong had a bronze each.

Hua Siong also stamped class in elementary boys, with Theo Salvador Ngu grabbing three golds in 400m, 800m and 1500m runs. Samuel Chua delivered two golds for Sun Yat Sen in 100m and 200m.

Sun Yat Sen’s Sander Pue had three silvers (800m, 1500m and 400m) while Jharyl Conlu had two (100m and 200m). Schoolmate Ariel Daniel Lachica had two bronze medals./PN
