ANTIQUE – A 27-year-old suspect in a stabbing incident in San Jose de Buenavista town was found dead in the town’s Barangay Supa.
Police said Brian Cañete, a resident of Barangay Guilhulngan, Negros Oriental, was found hanging from a tree around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 – two days after the incident that left two of his fellow construction workers dead and two others wounded.
Police Major Geremy Ian Magbanua, chief of the San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Police Station, said there were no injuries or wounds on Cañete’s body.
The victim’s remains were brought to a funeral parlor in the town.
San Jose de Buenavista police said the stabbing incident took place at the barracks of the construction workers near the under construction new government center of the Antique provincial government in Barangay Supa on Sunday night, May 12.
The suspect first stabbed Anthony Joy Lamila of Barangay Jayubo, Lambunao, Iloilo, who was at the comfort room.
Police said Lamila managed to shout for help. Ernesto Lumingob and Dante Lumingob, both natives of Barangay Disod, Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte, immediately responded but they, too, were attacked by the suspect.
Meanwhile, Jerson Casinillo of Barangay Del Carmen, Uson, Masbate was found lying beside the barracks with multiple stab wounds around 1:17 a.m. on May 13.
E. Lumingob and Casinillo sustained multiple stab wounds and were declared dead on arrival at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH).
Lamila and D. Lumingob were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
San Jose de Buenavista police earlier said the suspect, who fled after the incident, was allegedly suffering from depression./PN
