ILOILO ruled the 1st Governor’s Cup Regional Invitational U-15 Football Championships after beating Negros 1-0 in the gold medal match on Dec. 23 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Christian Talamor scored the marginal goal for the Ilonggos on a penalty hit in the 65th minute after a Negrense defender committed a hand ball violation inside the penalty box.
With the victory, the Ilonggo booters took home the top cash prize of P10,000. Negros, meanwhile, had P7,000 while third placer Capiz had P5,000.
On its way to the championship match, Iloilo scored a lopsided 17-0 victory over Capiz in the semifinals on Dec. 22. Negros, meanwhile, blanked Aklan, 12-0.
Iloilo also dominated the individual awards. Keim Sollorin bagged the Most Valuable Player and the Best Defender awards,while Mel Baylon was named Best Midfielder.
On Negros’ side, Regiezald Cabisantre was named Best Goalkeeper while Joshua Limco was recognized as Best Striker.
“Governor Art (Arthur Defensor Sr.) was glad with how our football tournament turned out,” said Edwin Caro Laru-an, Iloilo province football director. “For next year, we will try to increase the number of participating teams.”/PN
