TALISAY Selection ruled the Himamaylan Christmas Volleyball League Inter-High School Open Tournament after a 25-18, 23-25, 25-21 win over Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts at the Gatuslao Gym in Negros Occidental.
Talisay Selection turned to its bag of experience – it comprised mostly Under-18 college players – to turn back Tay Tung in the tightly contested finals on Sunday night.
Tay Tung still treated the runner-up finish as an achievement as it was able to push the experienced Talisay to the limit.
“There was nothing to be ashamed of,” Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung vice president for sports, told Panay News. “They were able to hold their ground and push the much-experienced Talisay to the limit.”
“I think fatigue also caught up with the players since we have been playing volleyball since Monday, from the Palarong Panlalawigan and here in Himamaylan,” he added. “We will learn from this loss.”
On its way to semifinals, Tay Tung beat Living Stone International School of Bacolod while Talisay Selection ousted University of St. La Salle-Bacolod in straight sets.
Other participating squads in the women’s division of the local league were Himamaylan Selection and Pontevedra./PN
