
CARL Tamayo continued his fine play as Changwon LG Sakers pulled off an 86-82 victory over Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League on Saturday at the Anyang Arena.
The former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons forward finished with 31 points, including two three-pointers, to go with eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist for the LG Sakers.
Jeong In-deok added 16 markers, Yu Ki-sang contributed 14 markers, while Darryl Monroe finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds as the LG Sakers improved to a 15-13 record.
“All the players fought well. I just quickly followed the coach’s orders,” Tamayo said in a post-game interview. “Rather than just scoring, I am doing my best at what I can do for the team.”
“All players can make mistakes. It’s important to fix them. We were able to win because we tried to fix them so that we wouldn’t make mistakes,” added the one-time UAAP champion.
Dionte Burton finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, while Javi Gomez de Liano contributed 13 markers as the Red Boosters remained in last place with a 7-21 record.
Meanwhile, Negrense Samjosef Belangel returned from one-game absence as the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus walloped the Wonju DB Promy, 84-61, at the Daegu Gymnasium.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles star finished with 15 points, including two three-point conversions, to go with three rebounds and two assists as the Pegasus improved to a 16-11 win-loss slate.
“If I were to evaluate my performance, my play was unstable due to minor injuries and cold weather. It’s something I need to improve,” said Belangel, who was previously sidelined with an ankle injury.
Kim Nak-hyun top-scored for the Pegasus with 24 points, including six outside baskets, Lee Dae-heon added 18 markers, while Youssopha Ndoye contributed a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds in the win./PN
