KALIBO, Aklan — The police has activated a task group to lead the investigation and the speedy resolution of the fatal shooting of a bank officer of the Rural Bank of Ibajay.

Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the Aklan Police Provincial Office, heads the newly-formed group, which also includes Senior Insp. Ariel Nacar, Ibajay police chief, and other elements of other law enforcement agencies in Aklan.

Assistant bank manager Gabriel Manikan was found dead by responding fire fighters Friday morning last week inside the burning Rural Bank of Ibajay along the national highway of Brgy. Poblacion, Ibajay.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Ibajay District Hospital.

The autopsy report of the police crime laboratory revealed that Manikan, who had gunshot wounds in the chest, was negative for gunpowder nitrate.

Nacion said, “We saw no clear motive behind the bizarre crime yet. We are now conducting a thorough probe to catch the culprit based on the pieces of evidence taken from the crime scene.”

Police said the investigators will continue to pursue more leads.

“The task force wants this case solved the earliest possible time and put an end to speculations,” Nacion added. “We are also working to determine why Manikan was inside the bank early in the morning, why the building was set on fire, and why he was shot.”/PN
