Tay Tung holds on to Milo girls volleyball title

BACOLOD Tay Tung High School retained its secondary girls volleyball title in the 2018 Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals on Saturday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Led by tournament MVP Alyssa Bertolano, Katherine Cortez and Aurea Alvero, Tay Tung scored 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23 against University of San Jose-Recoletos in the finals.

On its way to the finale, Tay Tung swept its two elimination round matches before staving off host team Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu 25-18, 25-20 in the semifinals.

“It is a hard-earned championship for us,” said Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “Really tough semifinals and finals matches for us but the players showed that they can handle pressure.”

Also part of the Tay Tung squad under head coach Ian Macariola are Kiesha Bedonia, Charlene Tayapad, Gwen Bañas, Anikha Cabasac, Sophie Cagalawan, Nicolei Galvan, Jermaine Joniega, Kathleen Kate Tan, and Elijah Ysulan.

Meanwhile Tay Tung’s elementary girls 4x100m relay team – Jade Cordova, April Anne Dealagdon, Shalthea Delotavo, and Ana Francessca Hermosura – also won gold.

Cordova added a bronze to her medal collection in elementary girls 400m hurdles while Ara Rahbea Delotavo clinched a silver medal in secondary girls 400m hurdles.

Meanwhile Living Stones International School leaned on the heroics of Jian Salarzon to clinch the title in secondary boys volleyball, defeating University of San Carlos./PN
