ILOILO City – Policemen are hunting for four teenagers who robbed and tried to kill a taxi driver yesterday morning in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz district.
The 25-year-old Reymart Abiso of La Paz district survived the attack but sustained a stab wound on the left leg and scratches on his face.
He was treated at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.
Abiso was driving a Kaoli Khan taxi (plate number FWY-337). Before dawn yesterday, four youngsters – two boys and two girls – boarded his cab on Ledesma Street, City Proper. They asked to be taken to La Paz.
The teenagers declared a holdup while the taxi was traversing Barangay Nabitasan. They took Abiso’s P5,000 collection and mobile phone then fled.
According to Senior Inspector Val Ladublan, La Paz police chief, one of the suspects had a knife.
Abiso tried to put up a fight. He was stabbed.
The driver managed to identify one of the suspects from the La Paz police station’s rogue gallery – a 15-year-old lad.
It was this boy who had the knife, Abiso told the police.
The La Paz police launched a manhunt.
Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, city police director, ordered his men to maximize their visibility most especially at night to discourage lawless elements from striking.
“On checkpoints, inspect taxis, especially those with passengers,” said Biñas.
He also urged taxi drivers to drop by the nearest police station before taking their passengers to their destinations./PN
