ILOILO – The provincial government is set to reward young Ilonggo sprinter Kian Labar with P90,000 in cash incentives after his standout triple-silver medal performance in the recently concluded ASEAN School Games, marking one of the strongest international showings by an Ilonggo student-athlete this year.
Labar, 17, of Dingle, Iloilo, bagged three silver medals — in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and the 4x400m relay — solidifying his status as one of the country’s most promising young track athletes.
The incentives were formally announced by Ray Cabarles, sports development officer of the Iloilo Sports Development and Management Office (ISDMO).
Under the provincial government’s incentive program, international medalists receive P30,000 per silver medal, amounting to a total of P90,000 for Labar.
Cabarles and the provincial government, led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., lauded the teen sprinter for his discipline, dedication, and the inspiration he provides to budding Ilonggo athletes.
The provincial government emphasized that Labar’s feat further strengthens Iloilo’s standing as a rising powerhouse in grassroots athletics.
“With his triple-silver finish and the recognition from the provincial government, Kian Labar’s journey as one of the Philippines’ most promising young sprinters continues to gain momentum,” according to Cabarles.
Labar’s achievement is expected to motivate more Ilonggo youth to pursue competitive sports and represent the province in future international meets./PN
