ILOILO City – A 16-year-old lad shot dead a 65-year-old ice buko vendor in Janiuay, Iloilo yesterday.
The shooting happened around 10:40 a.m., police said.
The victim, Ricardo Umadhay, died of a gunshot wound on the chest.
Prior to the shooting, the two had an altercation in Barangay San Jose, according to Senior Inspector John Paul Guay, municipal police chief.
A 12-gauge shotgun was used on Umadhay. He was driving a tricycle when shot.
“The victim and suspect were brought to the barangay hall of San Jose following an altercation minutes before the shooting. Umadhay demanded P3,000 as payment from the teenager for the former’s damaged ice buko merchandise,” said Guay.
The police chief, however, found out that the two had a history. Years ago, the teenager’s grandmother was living in with the victim as a couple.
As of this writing, the teenager’s whereabouts were unknown. He fled after the shooting.
The teenager was a resident of Barangay Aglubong, Janiuay./PN
