MOVE over “fashionistas”, you have become passé. The newest chic trend now is “terroristas”.
What is fashionable now is to be part of some advocacy no matter how stupid it is as long as it the latest talk of the town. It does not even matter if you understand what you’re supposed to be complaining about, what is important is you’re there hitching yourself to the latest bandwagon.
Fashion trends come and go and your typical trendy, social-climbing “woke” millennial will be passionate about the latest and just jump to next “flavor of the month” as soon as the former starts losing its “star appeal”.
Just a few weeks ago they were all passionate about “renew ABS-CBN”. Now they’re all about “junk anti-terror bill”.
Here’s a comment on some people desperately stretching it just to be part of the latest bandwagon trend:
When the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 is signed and becomes law, I’ll petition the Anti-Terrorism Council to declare the Manila Vegans as a terrorist group and afford them all the rights and privileges of a proper terrorist group bearing in mind that when it became fashionable to “junk the anti-terror bill” this group made all efforts to be part of the bandwagon trend even if their advocacy of eating talong and kangkong has no resemblance even remotely whatsoever to real terrorism. It is understandable, as they have always been viewed as quaint and somewhat amusing and never taken seriously, so out of pity perhaps we should just humour them that eating talong and kangkong is a threat to national security.
So nobody gets lost in translation, I’ll just park these:
Activism – the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change.
Terrorism – the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims
Advocacy – public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy
Of course activism is not terrorism. Who is that idiot who said it is? Let me rephrase…the idiot saying that activism is terrorism is also the same one shouting it is not. Remember this: those who were saying that Marcos is a hero are also the ones shouting he is not!
And for those trying to muddle the issue to satisfy their own perceive notions, perhaps this will help clear the issue:
Section 4(e) of HB 6875 otherwise known as the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020:
Provided that terrorism, as defined by this Section, SHALL NOT INCLUDE advocacy, protest, dissent, stoppage of work, industrial or mass action, and other similar exercises of civil and political rights, which are not intended to cause death or serious physical harm to a person, to endanger a person’s life, or to create a serious risk to public safety.
This section in the Anti-Terrorism Act is simple enough and quite easy to understand. But then again, given the fact that reading comprehension among the natives is quite low, I am not surprised that most of those “wokes” screaming “junk the anti-terror bill” are probably lazy to read this and just relied on what those so-called artista ng bayan, “beauty queens” and other celebrities say and just parrot it as it seems the fashionable thing to do.
Or if they have read it, probably never understood it, as it is written in English and not the usual Taglish, swardtalk that is their “mother tongue”.
I can understand, even expect, the leftists, pseudo-communists and those front organizations of the New People’s Army to be up in arms against the anti-terror bill as they are the specific targets of this bill, they know that the passage of this bill into law will deal a crushing blow, perhaps end their agenda to overthrow the government.
Nevermind those beauty queens, artista ng bayan, alumni of that prestigious institution of higher learning PBB and other celebrities; they‘re just trying to be relevant as they have no talent fee as entertainers because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I heard that a celebrity mouthpiece can be quiet profitable.
And we end with a pathetic and quite amusing situation that happened just a couple of days ago.
It seems that the folks at the Defend UPLB (University of the Philippines Los Baños) got caught with their knickers down and the sight wasn’t pretty. One of their members posted a supposedly death threat against him but it turned out that the mobile number used by what they claim was a “fake account” was the same number that Defend UPLB had on their FB account as their hotline number.
The funny thing there was that this person claiming he received this “death threat” because of his “junk terror bill” stand turned out to be the owner of the mobile phone and number that sent the “death threat”./PN
