BACOLOD City – The new provincial director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Negros Occidental had been shot while driving home in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Dr. Julius Jamero sustained six gunshot wounds. Police were looking into a lone unidentified gunman as behind the shooting at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Jamero was conscious when rescuers and police officers found him. He was taken to a private hospital in this city and already in stable condition.
From what investigators have so far gathered, the TESDA official was on board an Isuzu Crosswind when attacked.
He slowed down as he was about to make a right turn from F. Lacson Street to Magsaysay Street in Barangay Zone 12, Talisay when the suspect approached and fired at the vehicle seven times.
Six of the seven bullets hit Jamero on the body, police said.
Jamero was temporarily residing in Menlo Heights Subdivision in Barangay Zone 10, Talisay. He left the office past 6 p.m., said the investigators.
After the shooting, the suspect casually walked to a parked motorcycle and sped toward the north, police said, citing eyewitness accounts.
Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay police chief, believes the suspect was not a local because nobody recognized him.
The shooter used a .45 pistol based on the seven empty shells found at the crime scene, said the police.
The shots were fired in “grouping formation,” indicating that the shooter was adept at hitting targets, police added.
Jamero has been the TESDA provincial director for only more than three months.
The area where he was attacked was less than a kilometer away from where another TESDA officer was shot last year.
