ILOILO is becoming a booming business hub. What comes with that are more jobs. No matter where you live or whatever your educational attainment is, there’s always an opportunity for a career.

However, these opportunities always come with a catch. Sometimes work / responsibilities end up eating most of your time and your eight-hour shift nearly doubles. We end up losing the ability to balance our work and other aspects of our lives. It leaves us feeling stressed, tired and unhappy.

There are a few ways though to balance your life. The first thing you should d while you are at work is to set manageable goals each day.

Make a to-do list and learn to prioritize certain things. Do not cram and do not schedule a week’s worth of work in an afternoon.

The next step is to be efficient in the work place.

Make a system for yourself and don’t procrastinate. If you can finish it right then and there then do it. Don’t force yourself to stay late because you didn’t manage your time well.

Taking time can also help. Rest gives your brain a chance to put all the information it has gathered into order. A few breaks after a heap of paperwork can help reduce your stress levels and give you energy for your next task.

You should also never over commit.

If you see that your schedule is full and your time at home may come into conflict, then learn to say “no.” You are not superhuman and we all have lives outside of the office.

Lastly, don’t be ashamed to ask for help.

You would be surprised how a favor from a colleague can greatly reduce the pile of work you have. Make sure you’re not adding to his pile though! If you feel that your workload is too heavy then don’t be afraid to open it up with your boss.

These are just little morsels of food for thought; these tips could help you stay happy at your workplace and not affect your personal relationships with your friends and family. (angelica.panaynews@gmail.com)/PN
