ILOILO City – A suspected thief who entered the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 (DPWH-6) office on Muelle Loney Street, Barangay Concepcion, City Proper was shot by two security guards around 1:10 a.m. yesterday.
The 31-year-old Lindel Candiente of Barangay Salngan, Leon, Iloilo sustained gunshot wounds on his hand and body. He was brought to the West Visayas State University Medical Center.
According to Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 1, the guards on duty – Andrew Mar Tayona of Barangay Bitas, Tigbauan, Iloilo and Joseph Calopez of Barangay Carolina, Leon – caught Candiente entering the DPWH-6 office.
Sangrines said the suspect tried to run away but was hit when the guard fired a 12-gauge shotgun.
“Ang biktima naton may mga previous records sa station kag siya ang suspect sang mga kinawatay dira sa office. Familiar siya sang lugar kay daw naka-agi na siya security guard dira,” said Sangrines.
Tayona and Calopez voluntarily surrendered to the Iloilo City Police Station 1 after the incident./PN
