BACOLOD City – With a packed calendar of tournaments looming, the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts are tightening their systems and testing their depth as they gear up for a demanding volleyball campaign this November and December.
Backed by F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, the Thunderbolts will plunge into competition at the Rebisco Volleyball League starting November 4 at The Hangar, followed by successive stints in the Negros Occidental Division Meet (Nov. 5–8), Bacolod Division Meet (Dec. 1–5), and the Western Visayas Regional Meet (Dec. 14–18).
To measure their readiness, the Ian Macariola-mentored squad recently swept Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, a Philippine University Games contender, in a tune-up match last Friday.
“The scrimmage provided the Thunderbolts with valuable experience and an opportunity to fine-tune their chemistry and court execution,” said team manager Jose Montalbo.
Among those who led the solid performance were Briana Nikola Ang, Alexa Bertolano, Zelver Banguaio, Daniella Saloria, Ana Ysabelle Hermosura, Jan Rose Bulak, Shanen Bañas, Luchi Vivero, Memielle Letran, and Jhaney Mayang.
Missing in action was Rhose Viane Almendralejo, who is currently donning the national colors for the Alas Pilipinas 18-Under squad in the Asian Youth Games, while Edz Karylle Escultura sat out with an injury.
Coach Macariola said the Thunderbolts are steadily building cohesion as they balance veterans with fresh faces in the lineup.
“We’re focused on consistency and teamwork. The girls are working hard every day to stay sharp and disciplined,” he said.
With a long-standing tradition of age-group dominance, Bacolod Tay Tung hopes to sustain its winning culture and continue grooming talents bound for Western Visayas representation—and, potentially, the national team./PN
