MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws fended off their respective foes to tighten their grip on the top spot as they go 5-0 in the UAAP Season 80 women’s beach volleyball.
Golden Tigresses’ Cherry Rondina and Caitlyn Viray maintained their unblemished slate on Saturday at the Sands SM By The Bay in Pasay City by whipping University of the Philippines Lady Maroons’ Diana Carlos and Arielle Estranero 21-7, 21-15.
UST – the defending UAAP women’s beach volleyball champion – followed this up with a 21-9, 21-14 domination over Adamson University Lady Falcons’ Bernadeth Flora and Chrislyn Uy.
On the other hand, Lady Tamaraws’ Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza managed to keep in step with Tigresses by beating Lady Falcons and University of the East Lady Warriors’ Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat.
De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ May Luna and Ernestine Tiamzon, meanwhile, boosted their campaign with victories over Lady Warriors and National University Lady Bulldogs’ Roma Doromal and Audrey Paran.
Lady Bulldogs was able to taste its first victory by stunning Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles’ Bea De Leon and Jules Samonte 21-13, 15-21, 15-13.
At the end of Day 3, Golden Tigresses and Lady Tamaraws were tied at No. 1 (5-0) while Lady Spikers and Lady Maroons succeeded with identical 3-2 cards.
Occupying the fifth to eighth place in the standings were Lady Falcons, Lady Eagles, Lady Warriors, and Lady Bulldogs, all with one victory in five matches./PN
