ANTIQUE – Typhoon “Tino” caused P15,552,302.31 worth of damage to the agricultural sector in Antique during the first week of November 2025, according to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
The storm affected a total of 548.49 hectares, including 519.05 hectares of rice, 5.93 hectares of corn, and 23.51 hectares of high-value crops (HVC) such as vegetables in lowland areas.
The impact was felt by 837 rice farmers, who suffered P13,513,224.46 in losses. Corn farmers from Patnongon and San Remigio reported P145,125 in damages affecting 10 farmers. Meanwhile, losses in HVC reached P1,893,952.82, impacting 58 farmers.
Among the municipalities, San Jose de Buenavista recorded the highest agricultural losses at P6,115,538.78, followed by Patnongon (P2,476,577.80), Pandan (P1,144,942), and San Remigio (P1,089,421.77).
As a government intervention, the Department of Agriculture’s Rice Enhancement Program has allocated 300 bags of certified inbred rice seeds per cropping season as buffer stocks for the province.
The OPA also reminded farmers to insure their crops, livestock, and poultry through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to ensure they can access government aid in the event of losses due to natural disasters./PN
